Summary:
I am a historian and educator with a PhD in history from Durham University in the United Kingdom. My research focused on classical and medieval intellectual history, particularly the relationship between medieval science and theology. I have taught in both secondary and early college settings, primarily in survey courses on Western Civilization and modern world history.
While at Durham, I contributed to the Ordered Universe Project, an interdisciplinary research initiative funded by the UK Arts and Humanities Research Council that examined the scientific and theological writings of Robert Grosseteste (1175 to 1253), Bishop of Lincoln and an important figure in the development of experimental science. As part of the project’s educational outreach associated with Oxford University, I worked with UK secondary students, introducing them to demanding primary texts and guiding discussion on medieval cosmology, natural philosophy, and the historical relationship between religion and science. This work gave me extensive experience with discussion based instruction, Socratic pedagogy, and close textual analysis.
I also served as a teaching assistant at Durham University, lecturing on the religion, thought, and culture of Latin Europe in the High Middle Ages and leading seminars centered on primary sources.
After completing my doctorate and returning to the United States in 2023, I began teaching as an adjunct history instructor at Spartanburg Methodist College in South Carolina. There I teach primarily first year students, including many first generation college students. My work has also included supporting students with documented learning accommodations and Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), which has shaped my emphasis on clarity of structure, patient guidance, and high academic expectations.
My teaching centers on primary source engagement, guided discussion, and the cultivation of analytical writing. I believe the study of Western civilization helps students understand the religious, philosophical, and cultural traditions that shaped the Christian West. I am particularly interested in schools that combine rigorous academics with the moral and intellectual formation of students within a classical Christian educational setting.

Top 3 Books: Fyodor Dostoevsky: The Brothers Karamazov
I read this novel as part of a Russian literature book club I participate in. I was drawn to it for its profound exploration of faith, freedom, and moral responsibility, and for its deeply Christian engagement with questions of suffering, belief, and redemption.
Andrew Jotischky: The Monastic World
I read this book while conducting a research project on the history of monasticism. Jotischky provides a helpful overview of the development of monastic communities in medieval Europe and the religious ideals that shaped them.
St. Maximos the Confessor: On the Cosmic Mystery of Jesus Christ
I read this work in order to better understand the patristic teaching of recapitulation, the idea that in the Incarnation Christ restores and reunites the whole of creation in himself. Maximos’ reflections on creation, redemption, and the person of Christ offer a profound vision of Christian theology and the unity of the spiritual and material world.

Theology: I am a member of the Eastern Orthodox Church and draw deeply from the theological and liturgical tradition of historic Christianity, particularly the teachings of the early Church Fathers. Through my academic work and teaching experience, I am also familiar with a wide range of Christian theological traditions and am comfortable working within a broader classical Christian educational environment.
Belief in the inerrancy of Scripture?: Yes
Notes on Scripture: I affirm that Holy Scripture is divinely inspired and faithfully conveys God’s revelation to humanity.
Additional classical training: While I did not attend a formal classical school, my academic training and teaching experience have centered on the Western intellectual tradition. I have taught secondary students using primary texts and discussion based instruction in subjects related to classical and medieval history.
Why I want to teach at a classical school: I am drawn to classical Christian education because it combines serious academic study with the moral and intellectual formation of students. My own academic work has focused on the Christian intellectual tradition and the development of Western civilization, and I believe students benefit greatly from engaging primary texts within that tradition. A classical Christian school provides an environment where rigorous study, thoughtful discussion, and the integration of faith and learning can take place in a meaningful way.
Final thoughts: I am interested in opportunities to teach history and related humanities courses within a classical Christian school community and to help students engage thoughtfully with the texts and traditions that have shaped Western civilization.
