Summary:

I am a multi-disciplinary individual with deep experience across a variety of fields relevant to crafting a joyful, engaging, and rigorous classical classroom. I am finishing my second year of teaching 4th grade at Concordia Classical Academy in Walton, KY—a charge which has brought me tremendous delight! I was raised in a Christian home with a classical education, and having such a foundation has instilled in me a passion for life-long learning. It is thrilling to understand with ever-increasing depth that all things to be learned are rooted inextricably in the truth of the Son of God, Jesus Christ, and his salvific work on our behalf.

My faith in Christ informs all that I do, and my love for my Savior grows as I continue to study his Word and go to him in prayer. Christ is truly the cornerstone upon which the Christian must build his life. My students are taught from day one that God is their Good Father and that his Word is true. In every subject, we discuss the Bible, God’s character, and how even things like math or spelling are things worthy of awe: they reflect the mind of our Creator, and they are gifts he has given us as those made in his image!

My classroom is organized and tastefully decorated, and my classes often feature hands-on projects and engaging and memorable activities. I use many costumes and themed days to bring subjects to life! Some favorite themed days include a Colonial Tea Party, Lawmen and Outlaws Day, Greek Festival, the Psalm 8 Astronomy project, and our Pilgrim Journey (a day dedicated to our study of ‘The Pilgrim’s Progress’). In addition to traditional classical methods, I utilize recitation, Scripture memory, play-acting, and art to engage and assess student understanding.

My classroom disciplinary system is a miniature version of a typical upper-school house system. Students are placed in one of three houses and compete together for the end-of-year trophy. They earn points through academic excellence and behavior which aligns with our Code of Conduct, and they lose points with behavior out of line with that code. The winning class also gets to decorate their classroom with their house colors at the end of the year for the Virtue Banquet I host. At the Virtue Banquet, I present to each student a “virtue” that I have seen them exhibit throughout the year, and they are charged to continue to pursue Christ as their model for virtue. We also reflect upon the year and how the Lord answered our year’s daily prayers, of which I keep a meticulous record. This system has proven very character-building and successful.

The Bible makes it clear how the Savior loves and cherishes children. I desire more than anything to point students to the One who loves them and to work alongside families to help build the foundations that will propel these precious young people into the world with a well-rounded, Christ-focused classical education founded in the truth of the Word.

Summary:

I am a historian and educator with a PhD in history from Durham University in the United Kingdom. My research focused on classical and medieval intellectual history, particularly the relationship between medieval science and theology. I have taught in both secondary and early college settings, primarily in survey courses on Western Civilization and modern world history.

While at Durham, I contributed to the Ordered Universe Project, an interdisciplinary research initiative funded by the UK Arts and Humanities Research Council that examined the scientific and theological writings of Robert Grosseteste (1175 to 1253), Bishop of Lincoln and an important figure in the development of experimental science. As part of the project’s educational outreach associated with Oxford University, I worked with UK secondary students, introducing them to demanding primary texts and guiding discussion on medieval cosmology, natural philosophy, and the historical relationship between religion and science. This work gave me extensive experience with discussion based instruction, Socratic pedagogy, and close textual analysis.

I also served as a teaching assistant at Durham University, lecturing on the religion, thought, and culture of Latin Europe in the High Middle Ages and leading seminars centered on primary sources.

After completing my doctorate and returning to the United States in 2023, I began teaching as an adjunct history instructor at Spartanburg Methodist College in South Carolina. There I teach primarily first year students, including many first generation college students. My work has also included supporting students with documented learning accommodations and Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), which has shaped my emphasis on clarity of structure, patient guidance, and high academic expectations.

My teaching centers on primary source engagement, guided discussion, and the cultivation of analytical writing. I believe the study of Western civilization helps students understand the religious, philosophical, and cultural traditions that shaped the Christian West. I am particularly interested in schools that combine rigorous academics with the moral and intellectual formation of students within a classical Christian educational setting.

Summary:

I’m a 43 year old single, male teacher who has been teaching full-time at Veritas Academy for the past 7 years and taught part-time for 9 years before that. I wish to teach at a higher level with more students and more opportunities. Ever since Covid, it has become increasingly difficult financially to live up here and I want to move somewhere I can afford to live. At my current school I’m the only male teacher and the school is largely run by women, so it has been a very lonesome experience without the male companionship and leadership.
