Summary:
My academic formation and teaching experience position me uniquely for Classical Christian education, where scholarship enlightens the whole person toward the good and the beautiful. My own path reflects this goal: my doctoral work investigated and synthesized the connections present in the great traditions of the Bible, the Greco-Roman world, ancient languages and history, and considered how these were not so separate as has sometimes been taught. My professional life has done the same. During my years as Assistant Professor of Biblical Studies at Florida College, I developed and taught courses that in classical languages, literature, history, and philosophy. I taught Hebrew and Greek, trained students in exegesis, and led them through the historical and geographical contexts of Scripture. I also taught courses in the Great Books tradition, including seminars on Plato, Plutarch, Hesiod, and Homer, as well as Greek History. And, throughout, my teaching philosophy aligned with the Trivium. I established grammatical functions, whether in language in the understanding of content in other courses. I trained students in logical analysis and interpretive reasoning in my exegetical courses. And my teaching and publication history itself models the rhetorical stage, demonstrating how to communicate with ethos, pathos, and logos, both in speaking and in writing. The integration of faith and learning stands central to Classical Christian pedagogy. My scholarship explores how biblical authors engaged Hellenistic thought, how early Christians interpreted Scripture, and how ancient philosophical categories illuminated theological truths. My research directly examined classical educational concepts within Scripture itself. This work equips me to help students see how Christianity both fulfills and transforms classical wisdom; plundering Egypt to build the tabernacle rather than the golden calf. My commitment to student formation extends beyond classroom instruction. Multiple Senior Legacy Coin awards from graduating students reflect my investment in mentorship, advising, and modeling the examined life. I sponsored Bible Lab, coordinated professional development, and created learning environments where intellectual rigor served spiritual and moral formation. My students have gone on to receive fellowships and scholarships at their first-choice graduate schools where they’ve excellent, and many still remain in contact. Classical Christian education recovers ancient wisdom to form students who think clearly, live virtuously, and engage culture faithfully. My training bridges ancient languages, classical philosophy, biblical theology, and the history of ideas. My teaching experience demonstrates proven ability to guide students through texts and contexts, directing them to see the beauty behind them all and exemplify that same good in their own lives.

Additional Qualifications:
Additional Experience with CCE:
Hobbies, Interests, and Family: Soccer, Weightlifting, Reading, Writing.
Married with two daughters (13, 10).
Top 5 Books: Hesiod’s Theogony; Plutarch’s Lives; Kierkegaard’s Fear and Trembling; Camus’ L’Étranger; and Seneca’s Epistles.
Top 3 Books: Scot McKnight, Sermon on the Mount (2013). I chose this volume because I was preaching through the Sermon on the Mount and wanted to pursue a different view of the Sermon and have enjoyed reading Scot’s writing in the past.
Iaian Provan, Seriously Dangerous Religion: What the Old Testament Really Says and Why It Matters (2014). This had been on my list for awhile, but I finally got around to reading it. Provan explores how different religious traditions compare to the Bible when attempting to answer questions like “Who is God?” and “What is the world like?” These are crucial conversation questions in an evolving world and I wanted to consider different approach to how I’ve answered them in the past.
Jim Butcher, Twelve Months (2026). I’ve been a long time reader of Jim’s fantasy series, and Twelve Months is the most recent work which just came out (I got to go to a signing!). I very much appreciate how Jim’s work explores christian questions from non-Christian perspectives.
Most Influential Books: The Bible.
Plato, The Timaeus and Critias.
Robert Altar, The Art of Biblical Narrative.
Henri-Irenee Marrou, A History of Education in Antiquity
Robert Jordan, the Wheel of Time
Preferred Denomination Type: Other
Current Church: Smoky Hill Church of Christ
Current Church Denomination: Church of Christ

Current Church Attendance: Weekly
Support of Traditional Marriage: Yes
Theology: I’m an Arminian with significant sympathies towards Calvinism. I am part of the Church of Christ tradition that particularly values originalist readings of the Scriptures.
Belief in the inerrancy of Scripture?: Yes
Notes on Scripture: I believe that all Scripture is God breathed and beneficial for teaching, rebuke, correcting, and training in righteousness. Scripture is written for us, but it was not written to us, so we must translate it not only in language but in meaning that is first and foremost dependent on its needs and understanding its original context rather than a modern one.
Additional classical training:
Why I want to teach at a classical school: I love education and I believe that classical education’s emphases are where I can best use my gifts, training, and experience.
