Summary:

I am a devoted Catholic scholar and educator with a background in the Liberal Arts from Thomas Aquinas College, and currently pursuing my MA and PhD in Philosophy at the University of St. Thomas’ Center for Thomistic Studies. I have successfully taught science, mathematics (from geometry to calculus), and humanities to students ranging from 8th-12th grade in my two years of teaching. I believe I was able to lesson plan and teach all of these subjects because classical education is in my bones. I love being in the classroom, and helping students discover the truth and that the truth is worth pursuing for its own sake. I hope to serve a classical Christian school in whatever way I can. I believe my background in the Liberal Arts, zeal for classical education, and ability to teach in several subject areas should be put to service.

Thomas Aquinas College BA in Liberal Arts 2022

Employment History:

Position Employer Dates of Service Description
Teacher Ville de Marie Academy 2023-2024 I taught geometry, precalculus, calculus, and Roman era humanities at Ville de Marie Academy. I also started a writing club to help students improve their academic writing.
Teacher North phoenix Preparatory Academy 2022-2023 I taught geometry and earth science during my time at North Phoenix Prep.

Additional Qualifications:

Additional Experience with CCE: I have presented a talk for the Institute of Catholic Liberal Education on Mathematics in a Liberal Education. I have also attended workshops on liberal education from both the Augustine Institute and the Institute for Catholic liberal Education. On top of this, I have devoted much of my time to reading about classical education. One book that stands out is John Henry Newman’s The Idea of a University. I loved his emphasis on how the name university points us to the fact that all of these different disciplines are unified. They are all rays of truth emanating from one source, God.

Interests and Philosophy

Hobbies, Interests, and Family: Recently my wife gave birth to our first child, a daughter. I have loved going on walks with my family and praying the rosary together. Outside of time spent actively doing things with my family I spend my time reading. Currently I am reading through a collection of essays on Women and Women’s Education by Edith Stein, and Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy. Finally, I enjoy being physically active. This usually means going to the gym.

Top 5 Books: (For this prompt and the next two I will exclude the work of Sacred Scripture, simply because the importance of Scripture is unparalleled)
1. Confessions by St. Augustine
2. Summa Theologiae by Thomas Aquinas
3. Relativity: Special and General Theory by Albert Einstein
4. The Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy by Isaac Newton
5. War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy

Top 3 Books: 1. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen–I had never read it before but always heard good things about it. Plus, I just became a girl dad so I thought it would be nice to read a more feminine novel.
2. Books I-IV of St. Thomas Aquinas’ Commentary on Aristotle’s Physics–I read this book as part of my graduate studies. It was wonderful to read as I am very interested in natural philosophy and the nature of motion.
3. The Imitation of Christ by Thomas a Kempis–I chose this book to assist in my spiritual development and grow in the Christian life.

Most Influential Books: Confessions by Augustine, Summa Theologiae by Thomas Aquinas, The Republic by Plato, On the Soul by Aristotle, Consolation of Philosophy by Boethius, Euclid’s Elements

Preferred Denomination Type: Roman Catholic

Current Church: Our Lady of Walsingham

Current Church Denomination: Catholic

Current Church Membership: Yes

Current Church Attendance: Weekly

Support of Traditional Marriage: Yes

Theology: I am an observant Catholic and adhere to the teachings of the Catholic Church. I am particularly influenced by the thought of Augustine and Aquinas.

Belief in the inerrancy of Scripture?: Yes

Notes on Scripture: The Scriptures are completely free from all error, yet this does not mean we are all perfect at interpreting Scripture. Our Lord Himself frequently must interpret the Scriptures for people, Philip interpreted the prophet Isaiah for the Ethiopian, and we even see disagreement among the Apostles. None of us are even perfect at interpreting authors who tell us earthly things, therefore we must approach the Scriptures with great humility.

Additional Information

Additional classical training: I attended four years of college at a classical Great books college. I have taught classically for two years and partaken in several workshops and professional developments for the craft.

Why I want to teach at a classical school: I believe in the mission of the classical Christian school. To me, a classical education is a liberal education. This means it is the kind of education befitting of a free man. Not free from a physical bondage, but free from sin. Our Lord teaches, “He who sins is a slave to sin.” We must be freed from those things that inhibit our ability to live according to right reason and lead us into sin–ignorance and concupiscence. This is why a classical or liberal education focuses on both the reason and the will. I want to help people become free so that they may be in greater union with God.

Final thoughts: I am currently in the Houston area and am not willing to relocate at this time.
