Position Information

Position desired: Head of School, Teacher

Subjects you can teach: 7-12 Math Teacher, Mid-level Math Teacher

Willing to relocate to: Anywhere in US

Summary:

It is my desire to teach in a school grounded in a Christian worldview, underpinned by the Word of God. I am currently a teacher of mathematics in the United Kingdom, with experience in two state schools—one secular and one Roman Catholic. Through these experiences, I’ve come to believe that only a truly Christian school aligns fully with my beliefs. I believe that education is fundamentally the God-given responsibility of parents, who may delegate some authority to schools, and I would love to work at a school that affirms this truth. I also believe that education must be centred on God as our Creator.
In the UK, there are very few truly Christian schools, and to my knowledge, no Classical Christian Schools. This has drawn my attention to the United States, where the classical approach—teaching children how to think—greatly appeals to me. As a follower of Jesus Christ, I seek to contribute not only academically but as a joyful Christian role model who serves the school community wholeheartedly.
Academically, I bring a strong background in mathematics and a love for teaching. I earned top grades in my A-levels (A*, A*, A*, A in Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry, and Physics) and continued my studies at the University of St Andrews and later Loughborough University, where I graduated with First Class Honours in Sport Science. It was during my time at Loughborough that I became a Christian, through reading the Bible—an experience that changed my life completely. I had previously aspired to join the Royal Marines, but God graciously redirected my path into teaching.
I completed my PGCE and QTS at the University of Leicester, where I was the top achieving student in my cohort and received a university award for my dissertation on mathematical language fluency. I’ve since taught at Castle Mead Academy (an Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ school) and currently work at De Lisle College. These roles have developed my ability to create purposeful, engaging lessons with strong behaviour management.
Beyond teaching, I’ve served as Head of Rowing and Head of Duke of Edinburgh, gaining leadership and organisational experience. These roles reflect the trust senior leaders placed in me early in my career.
I am an active member of an evangelical church in Loughborough, England, where my wife and I serve regularly, including leading a children’s Bible ministry. I would welcome the opportunity to connect with a Classical Christian School in the U.S. to explore a work exchange that could support the advancement of Christian education in both our countries.

Interests and Philosophy

Hobbies, Interests, and Family: My current hobbies are considerably limited compared to when I was younger; when I had less responsibilities! I enjoy going for runs in God’s creation and I aim to do this around four times per week. Physical training is of some value (1 Timothy 4:8) but I believe it must be prioritised correctly in life. I recently got married, so a great deal of my free time is spent with Katy my wife, we often go for walks together (sometimes we run), and we enjoy reading books together. I am currently writing a mathematics curriculum for home school parents in the United Kingdom, including video lessons, assessments, homework, and parent solution booklets. The vast majority of my free time is spent working on this, and from conversations with parents in my church, there is a great need!

Top 5 Books: 1. Crime and Punishment – Fyodor Dostoevsky
2. The Brothers Karamazov – Fyodor Dostoevsky
3. The Case for Christ – Lee Strobel
4. Mere Christianity – C.S Lewis
5. War and Peace – Leo Tolstoy

On my to read list:
Holiness – R.C Ryle
Knowing God – J.I Packer
G.K Chesterton

Top 3 Books: 1. The Bible. Most of my reading time is spent in the Bible on a daily basis. I have found that with work, spending time with family, serving in church and writing a mathematics curriculum, that I have not had as much time to read new books recently. Under the pressures of life I have come to understand my need for God more and more, and spending time with God in His Word is essential for me to be refreshed, renewed and able to live the Christian life. No other book comes close to God’s Word. Even the greatest human authors, such as Dostoevsky cannot come close to the wisdom and love found in the writings of Paul in the New Testament. Having read some of the greatest books ever written, and having found them wanting in comparison to the scriptures, I am now more convinced than ever that God’s Word is true!
2. Crime and Punishment – Dostoevsky demonstrates narratively that, “without God everything is lawful.”
3. The Gulag Archipelago – I loved learning about Russian Communist history.

Most Influential Books:

Preferred Denomination Type: Reformed, Baptist

Current Church: Holywell Church Loughborough

Current Church Denomination: Reformed/ Conservative/Evangelical

Current Church Membership: Yes

Current Church Attendance: Weekly

Support of Traditional Marriage: Yes

Theology: I would describe myself as a “Bible Believing Christian.” I believe God’s Word is historically reliable, that Jesus Christ rose bodily from the grave and that the teachings of scripture that western culture finds unpalatable (e.g. male headship in marriage, male only pastors) are wise and trustworthy commandments from God. I listen to a variety of American preachers including Paul Washer and Voddie Baucham. In particular I have found Paul Washer’s sermons on the difference between knowing about God and knowing God helpful and I seek to know God personally in my own life. In regards to family life, I believe the Bible has a lot to say about these. I believe that the husband is the head of the house, and that his role is sacrificial, wherein he should seek to love his wife (with God’s help) like Christ loved the church. In return the wife should submit to her husband as the church submits to Christ. I also believe children are a great blessing from God according to the Bible.

Belief in the inerrancy of Scripture?: Yes

Additional Information

Additional classical training: I have not had any formal classical training, as in the United Kingdom (to the best of my knowledge) there are no classical schools.

Why I want to teach at a classical school: I want to work in a school which shares my world view, a school that has God’s Word as its foundation and which seeks to teach children ‘how to think’ via the classical system of grammar, logic and rhetoric. I believe a classical Christian school would see education primarily as teaching the children to know God, and about building Biblical character, not merely acheiving academic excellence. My experience in state schools has been that children are severely lacking in the area of thinking skills, and I particularly like this aspect of Classical Education which highlights the importance of teaching children how to think. I would also like to work in an environment with other believers, where we could enjoy Christian fellowship together.
