Summary:
I am seeking a position in a Christian-based school within the region of MD-DC-VA-WV. I am a historian, and have taught school two years at a Jesuit high school in Baltimore. I possess a Ph.D. in History as well as an extensive background in religious education in particular. While I would prefer a Theology, Philosophy, or History opportunity, I am open to the right position if offered.

Top 3 Books: John F. Crosby, The Selfhood of the Human Person – this was a textbook I had in my Master’s program at Steubenville, and I read it regularly to inspire certain aspects of my research.
C. Vann Woodward, The Strange Career of Jim Crow – it is a good look at Southern agrarianism, and why it is integral to understanding the Southern aspect of the Civil War as well as understanding the history of American race relations.
Wolfgang Smith, Theistic Evolution: the Teilhardian Heresy – I read this for a study I have published on Genesis, and it documents how Darwinian evolution has been used by people such as Jesuit priest Pierre Teilhard de Chardin to alter the traditional Catholic understanding of origins.
Most Influential Books: Desmond Birch, Trial Tribulation and Triumph – gives a good balanced Catholic eschatological perspective. Very influential personally on my own theological growth.
Olive Beaupre Miller, My Book House (12-volume set) – this collection I have possessed in one edition or another since my early childhood. It aided in my own intellectual growth.
Charles Coulombe, Puritan’s Empire – a good alternative view of American History from a Catholic Monarchist perspective. It helped shape my own political positions on a number of things.

Theology: I am essentially committed to the Vincentian Canon, which states the Catholic faith is believed by all, everywhere, and at all times. This means I accept the total infallibility of Holy Scriptures, and profess the faith of the historic Creeds of the Church. However, as a Catholic Christian, I am not always in agreement with the official Vatican bureaucracy as at times I think there are more authentic forms of Catholic faith than they often possess. However, the Magisterium as historically believed and upheld is my official faith, and it is also informed by a Thomistic philosophical position.
Belief in the inerrancy of Scripture?: Yes
Notes on Scripture: While Scripture is not meant to be a comprehensive history of mankind, the history it does contain is truthful and can be affirmed. The purpose of Scripture is that it is the story of God’s love for mankind, despite mankind’s own falling short. Scripture must be accepted as a whole, meaning that God created the universe, and that at some point Christ will return and renew it from the sting of sin. At the central part of that is the Gospel message, and central to that is the person of Christ.
Additional classical training: My own classical training has been informal, as I supplemented conventional education I had with it. I incorporated classical elements into projects I have completed from my high school years until my doctoral program. I did have formal Latin language classes in high school, as well as German, and I also had an intensive elective Humanities course. Additionally, in graduate school I had Koine Greek.
Why I want to teach at a classical school: I think the classical model is the best model, and almost everything else generates from it. This is true especially in the skill of rhetoric. I want to teach at a classical Christian school mainly because I want to encourage quality communication skills to younger people, as well as grounding them in more substantive disciplines. I feel that as a fairly traditional Catholic educator myself I could do that, and I believe a Classical Christian school is the most appropriate setting to do so.
Final thoughts: I have areas of research I have done over the years that could aid in the process as well, including extensive study of Middle Eastern Christian minorities (Assyrians, Copts, Armenians, etc.), Appalachian Studies, Late Roman Antiquity, and I have also been interested in learning more about pre-Columbian MesoAmerican cultures.
Additionally, I have a penchant for writing, and feel this could aid in lesson planning and other related pursuits as it pertains to classical education.
