Summary:
Choosing to educate children in an alternative environment with a unique approach to education was an opportunity brought to me by my Lord. By Him and through Him, it was successful. For more than 10 years I studied and implemented the Principle Approach, published by the Foundation of American Christian Education. While the trivium is not overtly expressed, the key components practiced throughout the Principle Approach align with the trivium. Those components exercise skills learned through researching and organizing information, reasoning through the research to identify biblical principles and truth, relating the principles across the curriculum, and recording what has been learned. The roots of this approach are historical; preserved in primary sources and is patterned after colonial and early American education. This approach purposes “to restore Christian self-government and character to the individual, the family, and the nation” (https://face.net/the-principle-approach/).
It was a very fruitful time. With the scope and sequence provided by FACE, I grew in my ability to write courses and lessons for grades Pk-12 in all the Humanities and taught literacy throughout the curriculum. Saxon Math was used for each grade. For high school science, I used Apologia Science. The library assembled in our schoolhouse grew with every grade level. It included timelines, Bibles, music and song books, reproductions of historical documents and histories, philosophers, biographies, living books, classic authors for each era studied, reliable reference books as resources for all subjects. I learned how people learn and taught accordingly using both direct instruction and the Socratic method. I was motivated to guide students to become lifelong learners, for them to know how to independently seek truth and know what is good, have the strength of character to do what is right, and live out the purpose for which they were created.
That is what motivated me to pursue and achieve my bachelor’s degree in psychology with a concentration in life coaching followed by my master’s degree in education focused on human development and cognitive psychology. I continued my education by training with Equipping Minds and marvel at the results achieved by students struggling academically and those with learning disorders.
My practice with Equipping Minds led me to understand why both the Principle Approach and the Trivium have a profound intellectual, spiritual, and self-governing effect on students. It is a joy coaching and sharing both the abstract concepts and proven strategies I have learned with students, parents, and educators. Should there be a need for an instructional coach for teachers or a cognitive development coach available to children who struggle academically, it would be my pleasure to serve.

Theology: The Godhead, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, as the trinity, illustrates unity with diversity. God is the designer and creator of the earth and everything in it. He alone is God, no power or authority is above Him. Making Mankind in His image, the Father provides everything for life and godliness. From one blood he made all nations to dwell on the earth and defined their historical times and boundaries so human beings would seek and find Him. He reveals Himself to those who diligently seek and love Him. He is ever present, willing to lead us in His ways. He governs by consent and therefore forces nobody. Jesus, God incarnate, the redeemer promised the moment humans turned from God to exalt themselves, entered into time redeeming all who believe in His shed blood for atonement for their sins. Jesus rose from the dead, ascended to the Father, and is returning. The Holy Spirit glorifies Jesus and with God’s word teaches and transforms Jesus’s followers for God’s glory, here to eternity.
Belief in the inerrancy of Scripture?: Yes
Notes on Scripture: The message about a Creator who wants a relationship with people is consistent throughout the Bible. This is miraculous considering it was written over 1500 years, in 3 different languages, on 3 different continents. Accomplished because “all Scripture is God-breathed” (2 Tim. 3:16). Additionally, the voluminous amount of ancient copies of the original texts are accurate copies. His hand has guarded His word ensuring that “the words of the Lord are flawless” (Ps.12:6).
Additional classical training: For more than ten years I studied and practiced an approach and methodology to education called the Principle Approach, published the Foundation for American Christian Education which was originally described as an American Classical Education. My use and subsequent studies have allowed me to recognized the commonalities that Classical Christian education and the Principle Approach share. So, I have not had direct training in Classical education but have practiced an approach to education that shares similarities.
Why I want to teach at a classical school: I am motivated to lead children in becoming lifelong learners, to provide them with skills needed to independently seek and find truth, to know what is good, have the strength of character to do what is right, and live out the purpose for which they were created. It is my belief that a Classical Christian education affords the children the opportunity to develop a love of learning and attain the spiritual, intellectual, and physical fortitude necessary to press on toward the goal, laying hold of that for which Christ has laid hold of them.
