My earlier degrees, BA (Hons) and MA, were also in classics. I also completed certificate programs in Project Management at Cornell University in Ithaca and in Intermediate Photography at Vega School of Brand Leadership in Cape Town, South Africa. I have taught Literature in English at the high school level and, more recently, at Howard University. I have also facilitated Harvard University’s Center for Hellenic Studies K12 Workshops in collaboration with the University of Virginia. My main focus has been to seek innovative ways to promote rhetoric globally and, more recently, to develop working prototypes of AI tools to train students in higher education institutions and industry professionals. As a scholar-researcher, my pedagogy is research-oriented and has implications for personal development and social impact. I also have extensive management and organizational experience in both the industry and the NGO sectors. For almost two decades, I have led the African Association for Rhetoric and served as the founding editor of the African Journal of Rhetoric (AJR). I have extensive experience in organizing and convening conferences, chairing board meetings, and coordinating decision-making proceedings. I am a member of professional organizations, including the National Communication Association (NCA), the Academy of Management (AOM), and the Society of Business Ethics (SBE). I am a born-again Christian and believe in the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

Theology: I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and through Him alone and by Him can a man be saved. I believe that we have to propagate the gospel of Jesus Christ, that all men might hear and be saved. I believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues.
Belief in the inerrancy of Scripture?: Yes
Notes on Scripture: I believe in the inerrancy of the Bible. I believe in the integrity of the Bible to keep humans on the straight and narrow road to please God in all. I believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God and lean toward the Bible’s harmony and the absence of contradictions.
Additional classical training: For my BA (Hons) degree, I did a combined Latin and Greek, Greek and Roman Literature, history, philosophy, and North East Africa, and I wrote my long essay on six great orators in history. I continued with classical education at the postgraduate level, where I also studied Latin and Greek, and I wrote essays on set speeches in Sallust’s Histories: Catiline’s War and Jugurtha. I wrote the MA thesis on Cicero’s Pro Caelio. I continued with Cicero on the PhD, where I analyzed some select speeches. I would claim that my classical education is quite robust.
Why I want to teach at a classical school: I appreciate the ACCS’s approach of amalgamating faith with education. Knowledge alone does not produce character, and if one is moral, it does not meet the spiritual requirement for eternal life with God. Knowledge of God is quite sparse in formal educational institutions today, and it behooves one to help lay a very solid foundation for a godly life that yields benefits in this life and beyond. The Trivium still stands as a solid foundation for education, and training in both classical languages enhances human cognition. Based on my training, rhetoric is an essential skill in public life. However, rhetoric itself is a dangerous instrument when used recklessly. This necessitates the proper training in rhetoric for public life and for ministry. Augustine actually suggests that with proper training in rhetoric and the consciousness of God, one has the chance to behave appropriately in leadership positions and public office.
Final thoughts: I look forward to speaking with schools that have positions where I can contribute and add value.
Many thanks for the opportunity.
Sincerely,
Johnson Olusegun Ige
