Additional Experience with CCE:
Hobbies, Interests, and Family: My husband and I have four kids ages 14 to 21. I am Canadian American, so my family and I love to spend our summer vacations in Quebec. For the last 5 years, most of our family have assisted L’eglise chretienne St. Georges de Beauce in running their English for Kids Bible camp. I love traveling, and had the opportunity last summer to spend two weeks in Senegal on a French teacher immersion tour. We also have enjoyed supporting international students wherever we are, often having them over for dinner, or taking them to the zoo or to the airport. We also love the outdoors and hiking.
Top 5 Books: I am currently leading my French III-V students in a study of L’Etranger by Camus, and led a study of Tartuffe by Moliere last year. My specialty is French literature, but my love is Russian literature. It has been more than five years, but I’ve read most of Tolstoy and Dostoevsky. I also enjoy reading historical biographies of the Russian Czars and their families. I am not as well read in British, American, or classical literature, but I love the Brontes and what I have read of Oscar Wilde, to name a few.
Top 3 Books: 1. L’Etranger by Camus: I read this to prepare to teach it to my advanced students
2. Broken Pieces and the God Who Mends Them: Schizophrenia through a Mother’s Eyes: I read this to better understand how to love and serve those with mental illness in the church
3. Tartuffe by Moliere: I read this to prepare to teach my advanced French students
Most Influential Books: The Bible, Democratization of American Christianity, Infant Baptism and the Silence of the New Testament
Preferred Denomination Type: Reformed
Current Church: Covenant Presbyterian Church
Current Church Denomination: Orthodox Presbyterian Church
Current Church Membership: Yes
Current Church Attendance: Weekly
Support of Traditional Marriage: Yes
Theology: I am historically reformed, holding to the five points of Calvinism and covenant theology. I hold to the Heidelberg and Westminster Confessions as a faithful summary of the teachings of scripture.
Belief in the inerrancy of Scripture?: Yes
Notes on Scripture: God’s word conveys His will to us perfectly and provides all that we need for life and godliness. It tells us all that we need to know about who Christ is and what He has done.
Additional classical training: I have completed the Spell to Write and Read two day training, Director and Tutor training for Classical Conversations, and have attended several Parent Practicums led by Classical Conversations.
Why I want to teach at a classical school: I firmly believe that a truly Christian education prepares our students to live for Christ in a world that denies Him. I also firmly believe that a classical education trains students how to think and gives them tools that have truly been lost in our utilitarian society.
