Notes on Scripture: The perspicuity of Scriptures regards it as necessary for the essentials of the life in Christ, and godly obedience, and is also sufficient. Though the Bible does not answer all questions, it is essential and sufficient for our life in humility with God. We are content with what it does answer and are humble in our disagreements over issues that are not primary and doctrinally salvific.
Additional classical training: The tutorial approach in graduate school at Oxford was one-on-one and involved Socratic questioning and dialogue with the tutor in defense of weekly essays on the assigned biblical topic for that week. This was the only formal exposure to classical methodology that I experienced. My classical methodology in both the natural science and theology classrooms have developed through my 15 years in classical education and continue to do so.
Why I want to teach at a classical school: As I state in every opening the classical academy podcast I host each month, “Classical Christian education is the educational hope of the western world.” It teaches students how the think, not what to think, how to learn, not what to learn, other than those Christian essentials that develop them into young men and women of virtue, wisdom, purpose, and courage who chase after truth and beauty, knowing how to discern them from the counterfeits of such.
Final thoughts: I admit a deep concern for the non-biblical and anti-biblical distractions competing for the hearts and minds of the generations to come. Classical Christian education is a significant contribution to counter this. Though it is not sufficient, it is essential; nd without it, sufficient counter-culturalism would be difficult or impossible to achieve in upcoming generations.
