Summary:
I am a recently retired Army Chaplain (COL) who has followed Classical Education for decades. I have now chosen to orient my disciple-making ministry in a Classical Christian School. I completed my PhD in Theology while teaching at a 2-day a week school, but am now looking for a full-time position. I have extensive teaching background, including 5 years as an Adjunct Professor of Theology at Spurgeon College, but little training in modern education theory/practice. In my 2 years at Evergreen Classical School, I taught OT interpretation, NT interpretation, Biblical Theology, Formal and Informal Logic, Latin I and II, and History and Science courses. My motto to my students is “I care more about who you are than what you know, and I care a LOT about what you know!”

Hobbies, Interests, and Family: Married to Lauren since 2002.
Hobbies include: increasing my proficiency in Hermeneutics, motorcycling for missions, fly fishing, running, playing bass in worship band, traveling and or running errands with my wife and best friend.
Top 5 Books: Because I was writing my dissertation, my reading has been hyper-focused, but in the last year, I have been reading Augustine’s “On Christian Doctrine” to get back to some classical ad fontes reading.
Top 3 Books: The last three books I read were all oriented toward improving as a classical teacher. They are “The Good Teacher” by Christopher Perrin and Carrie Eben, “Wisdom and Eloquence” by Robert Littlejohn and Charles Evans, and “The Running Revolution” by Nicholas Romanov to improve my Cross Country coaching.
Most Influential Books: The Holy Bible. The value of any other book is measured against this one! After that, “Kingdom Through Covenant” by Gentry and Wellum, “The Stranger on the Road to Emmaus” by John Cross, and “Firm foundations: Creation to Christ” by Trevor McIlwain informed how I read and teach the Bible. As a child I was shaped in significant ways by the Lord of the Rings Trilogy and Fritz Lieber’s stories featuring Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser.

Theology: I am a Baptist of Reformed soteriology and Progressive Covenantalist. After serving as an Army Chaplain in a pluralistic environment, I joyfully serve with believers of differing third and second-tier views, as long as the Gospel is correctly represented.

Additional classical training: My classical training consists of regular reading of largely internet blogs and articles for the last two decades, followed by mentorship from my prior Head of School, Aaron Laenger, who currently serves as the ACCS Director of Membership. He continually mentored and guided me for these last two years and led me to the books I studied regarding the philosophy and practice of Classical Christian Education.
Why I want to teach at a classical school: Because I believe that classical Christian schools are the most fruitful match for my teaching gift and passion to form multiplying disciples of Jesus Christ.
