Summary:

I am an ordained elder in the Free Methodist Church USA, and I would welcome the chance to bring my faith to bear on every part of my teaching day.
From 2020 to 2025 I served as Assistant Professor of Theological Studies at Seattle Pacific University and Seminary, teaching undergraduate foundations courses in Christian faith as well as advanced courses in culture, justice, and society. I also teach theology to seminary students in Nigeria. Most recently I designed and taught a series of Holistic Liberation seminars, a dual series of 20 modules focused on ancient texts (Old and New Testaments) read for the present quest of human freedom. A certificate curriculum built on close reading of ancient biblical texts, the program was made for cohorts of Christian leaders in Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, and Benin. Across my doctoral work and my years at Seattle Pacific, I have engaged Plato, Augustine, Thomas Aquinas, and John Duns Scotus with students. Classes in which I engaged these classical texts include Christian Foundations, Christology and Discipleship, and Theology and Social Justice. My teaching of church history has given me a working command of how the ancient world, the early Church, and the medieval period shaped the faith and culture we inherit. I would help students see Scripture, the Greek and Roman classics, and the early Church in conversation with one another. In Medieval Literature, I would lead them from Augustine’s Confessions to Aquinas and Duns Scotus, treating these as thinkers to wrestle with, not simply authors to summarize. As someone born and educated in West Africa, I also bring a reminder that the tradition was never only European: Augustine, Athanasius, and Tertullian were all Africans, and students are often moved to learn it. I teach through Socratic discussion, careful writing, and metacognitive reading strategies that build critical readers, and I assess student work against clear rubrics. As a certified conflict mediator and board-certified coach, I help students disagree charitably and reason toward the truth together. I also understand the high school world firsthand. For five years I worked in Fayette County Public Schools in Kentucky alongside teachers and staff, and I have built after-school and youth programs, taught Sunday school book studies of Acts, Galatians, and Ephesians, and mentored students as a faculty club advisor.
