Summary:

I am a historian and educator with a PhD in history from Durham University in the United Kingdom. My research focused on classical and medieval intellectual history, particularly the relationship between medieval science and theology. I have taught in both secondary and early college settings, primarily in survey courses on Western Civilization and modern world history.

While at Durham, I contributed to the Ordered Universe Project, an interdisciplinary research initiative funded by the UK Arts and Humanities Research Council that examined the scientific and theological writings of Robert Grosseteste (1175 to 1253), Bishop of Lincoln and an important figure in the development of experimental science. As part of the project’s educational outreach associated with Oxford University, I worked with UK secondary students, introducing them to demanding primary texts and guiding discussion on medieval cosmology, natural philosophy, and the historical relationship between religion and science. This work gave me extensive experience with discussion based instruction, Socratic pedagogy, and close textual analysis.

I also served as a teaching assistant at Durham University, lecturing on the religion, thought, and culture of Latin Europe in the High Middle Ages and leading seminars centered on primary sources.

After completing my doctorate and returning to the United States in 2023, I began teaching as an adjunct history instructor at Spartanburg Methodist College in South Carolina. There I teach primarily first year students, including many first generation college students. My work has also included supporting students with documented learning accommodations and Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), which has shaped my emphasis on clarity of structure, patient guidance, and high academic expectations.

My teaching centers on primary source engagement, guided discussion, and the cultivation of analytical writing. I believe the study of Western civilization helps students understand the religious, philosophical, and cultural traditions that shaped the Christian West. I am particularly interested in schools that combine rigorous academics with the moral and intellectual formation of students within a classical Christian educational setting.
